The Fruits of Our Labors

Indeed I am domestic and I don't think that's ever been a question in our family - And I love my garden! Before we started our garden this year, we decided that it needed a pick me up and some fresh fertalizer. So - my ingenious mind went right across the street to dear Aunt Raelynne's house with her mound of fresh horse/cow fertalizer piling up behind the barn. Thinking that we could go green and save money by using our natural resources that are available, we trecked right on over! Little did I know that the horse poo behind the barn is FILLED - if not 100% weed seed. Yeah - so - my garden quite regulary looks more like a field that needs some livestock rather than a beautiful fruitful garden! I recently suggested a cute billy goat for some livestock to which Brad said no. Fine. Anyway - on our weekly weed session that had been overlooked for a couple of weeks - that made our weeds about 1 ft tall above ground - and at least 2 feet below - Brad my sweet husband got a little curious as to what the onions were looking like under their soil blanket. So - uprooted an onion he did. Which - to my pleasant surprise - was actually growing an onion! I loved it! I do have to admit that being the first year that I've planted onions - I didn't think it would grow very well - but they are - and I'm ecstatic! I love it! Being the domestic goddess that I am, I used the onion the following Sunday to help make an omlet. Even though there were only about 4 slivers of onions, the one that I did actually taste was quite divine and I am excited to see more fresh produce as it's an absolute must and TOTALLY better than the grocery store OR the Farmers Market. I just ate my first zuchini of the season last night - and I'm already making plans for how the garden will be bigger and better next year. I can't wait!

WELL YOU HAVE DONE IT! PLANT A LITTLE SEED AND LIKE MAGIC A LITTLE WHILE LATER IT'S A BEAUTIFUL ONION OR POTATO OR BABY OR WHATEVER. OH DID I TYPE THAT OUT LOUD? HA HA HA LOVE YA COUS. I'M SUPER PROUD THAT YOU HAVE PUT YOUR SHOULDER TO THE WHEEL AND ACTUALLY SEEN THIS GARDEN THROUGH THE ENTIRE SEASON. THAT'S SO MUCH MORE THAN i CAN SAY FOR MY SAD, DEAD, NON FRUIT PRODUCING PLANTS IN MY BASEMENT. THEY NEVER EVEN MADE IT TO REAL SOIL. BOO TO ME.
